Science Projects

It’s no secret to those who know me that I don’t love science.  I only had one science class that I enjoyed in high school and that was a class where we studied animals and their environments.  I did a bit of science with Xander when he was younger using the young scientist kits but honestly most of the 36 kits I purchased are still sitting in the closet! Luckily over the years I have been able to find other opportunities for my kids to learn science, which they love, through other people.  That is, until they started at BFHA.  Only Xander and Rani still attend and now that Rani is reading well she is going to be home again next year.  They both had to do science projects as part of their classes.  I begged Dave to do their projects with them because it really stresses me out and he agreed.  Rani did a project using gelatin and seeing if additives will decrease or increase the strength of a gel. I helped her put together the presentation part of it and it looked great! Xander was supposed to take a picture but he didn’t get a good one of her presenting.

Xander decided to make a gasifier. We first saw a gasifier made on the TV show “The Colony” and it really intrigued all of us.  Basically a gasifier creates wood gas that is flammable and can be  used as fuel for any gas powered motor.  Dave and Xander made a small version and never really got a good flame but it was a very interesting experiment to say the least. Here is a little video Xan made of the big moment.
