Clogging Competition

Rani participated in her very first clogging competition last Saturday.  She participated in two categories. Neither of us knew what to expect. We were told that she could wear anything she wanted and that it didn’t really matter.  I tried to curl her hair but it was a miserable failure and we didn’t put any make-up on her.  To our surprise when we arrived the girls were all made-up like it was a beauty pageant.  Glitter spray was thick in the air. I had no idea it would be like that and we felt out of place.

Each participant earns 1st, 2nd or 3rd place based on their performance.  Rani earned 2nd place on both, most likely because she kept looking at the other girls instead of just looking at the judges and doing the dances. She knew both of them by heart.

I asked her if this is something she is interested in doing in the future and she said yes. She hopes to get 1st next time. I told her she will have to try out for a team this summer then and work very hard.  She is willing to do that. We shall see how things pan out.  I am excited for her.

Of course I can’t believe I forgot my camera! But luckily I had my cell phone to do a bit of video.

April 20, 2010 - 12:00 am Yamile - awww! Cute! Your darling girls is sure growing so fast! Magali does irish dancing. She participated in her first feis (competition) in January and took first place. She was ecstatic (so was I to tell the truth. Ok. I even cried). Something that I love about Irish dance competitions is they don't allow make-up of any kind on under 12's. It's only about the dancing which is a lot like clogging.
