Nose to Nose and Knees to Knees -Success!

A big THANK YOU to Emily for her suggestion of putting my kids nose to nose and knees to knees when they fight. Upon reading her suggestion I went in to the kitchen straight away where Rani and Ollie were fighting and told them they had to sit that way until they apologized.  Rani thought it was lots of fun and just started laughing. Ollie had a harder time with it, he did NOT want to do it. I brought the older kids in and told them that this position was the new position for all children who choose to fight with each other including 14yos.  Can you believe there has been NO FIGHTING! If they even start to argue all I say is  “do you need to do nose to nose?” and they stop right away.  Wierd how fast it worked but it has sure saved my sanity. I was tearing my hair out!

May 10, 2010 - 1:32 pm Karina - Another idea that I've had huge success with. My kids have to go to the singing chairs. They sit there until they feel like singing to each other. Then they have to hug. They always choose to sing the song from Barney, "I love you, you love me, we're best friends as friends can be, with a great big hug and a kiss from me to you, won't you say you love me too."

May 18, 2010 - 1:37 pm Brandi - I love that idea! I've heard it before, but I never seemed to remember it when I needed to use it. I tried it today with my 5yo and 6yo, and well, it took a couple of minutes for the 6yo to say sorry, but my 5yo did it quick. Unfortunately she had to stay there until the 6yo was ready. She didn't seem to mind too much though. I think she liked it better than time out.
