Home Sweet Home!- Day 1

I can’t believe that our home purchasing journey has finally come to an end! What a rollercoaster ride this has been. From the first time we started talking about the possibility of selling in March 2011, to moving in with Dave’s awesome mother so that we could fix up the house in June 2011, to getting the house on the market in October 2011, to finally getting an offer in January 2012, to bidding on the short sale we thought for sure would be our home in February 2012 to giving on up on that sale and making an offer on a different home in September 2012 to FINALLY getting the keys today on November 20th, 2012! It has been a long 20 month process and at times it has been completely exasperating. There were times I wanted to give up and times I was excited and motivated. These last couple of weeks have been especially rough. I’m so glad we didn’t put our baby making plans on hold for this process. If it weren’t for the excitement of new life I am not sure I would have survived. Last week we got to have our 20 wk ultrasound to measure the baby. That was so wonderful! We only got one picture and we didn’t find out if it’s a boy or a girl. Here’s my 20 week belly pic and our ultrasound profile. What’s your guess? Boy or girl?

And that brings us to this week of torture. We signed on the house on Thursday the 15th of November and it didn’t fund until today! Crazy long and leave it to us to have all the wierd things happen but we are so relieved to have the selling/buying/financing part all finished and we are just starting on the fixing up the fixer upper part. It was so exciting today when we got the keys! All the kids came to the house with us and we took a family picture on the front porch before we unlocked the door ourselves and went inside! It was seriously cold in there since we haven’t been able to get the heat turned on and the house had a bunch of trash left behind but the kids didn’t seem to care. They were so excited to have a house again! Our very own house!!!

This house has seen better days on the inside that’s for sure. The home inspection report was 75 pages long! (no that is not an exaggeration. eek) and there’s lots of work to do! On the agenda for day 1 was to start removing the venetian plaster from the walls. It was only halfway finished and rather than try to finish it ourselves we decided to tackle removal instead. Some of the plaster came off with water and a sponge! Some of it was more difficult though and it’s going to take some time to take off. We are excited to be moving forward on the project though and we worked quite a bit despite the cold temperatures!
