Happy Birthday Virginia!

Yesterday was a big day in our home. Tiny Miss Vee turned one year old! Her day was absolutely perfect. We started the day with breakfast (whole milk yogurt) in bed. They are never too young to participate in our traditions! Then we picked up the house for her party and went shopping for last minute goodies while she crawled around and played with her toys and had a grand time.

Her party was awesome! There was plenty of yummy food and lots of friends and family. She was so cute and outgoing. She is usually so reserved and contemplative, it was strange to see her so friendly and social. She seemed to know that this party was all about her and she revelled in it.

Her cake was so cute. It was hot pink with tiny white flowers and mint green leaves with a tinkerbell on top. We sang to her and then gave her the cake. At first she was very dainty using just her pointer finger to test it out. She didn’t want to get messy so she dived in head first and started sucking the frosting right off the cake. It was so funny! Everyone was laughing and she was loving it.

She got many lovely gifts. She got sweet clothes, a bouncy ball which mader her belly laugh(another thing she rarely does), and some nail polish and earrings. She loved the presents and even though she was dead tired I have never seen her so happy. It was a lovely day!

Now I would like to share some photos we did the day before her birthday. She got to do a separate cake smash the day before for pictures and as you can see she also preferred to dive right into this one as well. Before you ask, yes those are earrings in her ears. I did take her to get her ears pierced on Monday and I am very happy! She looks just as cute as I imagined and so far taking care of them has been easier than I imagined. I am so glad I finally gave in and had them done!

May 15, 2009 - 8:10 am Karla - What adorable pics Tamra. I had Megan's ears pierced right before her first b-day and they were so easy to take care of. She is a beauty!

May 15, 2009 - 8:28 am Brandi - Those pics turned out darling! I love the one with her leaning into the cake to eat it. Her party was so fun! Watching her nurse the cake was so cute. Thanks for inviting us, oh, and for letting me play with your camera again. hehe

May 18, 2009 - 8:30 am Lakshmy - Hi Tamra, Congratulations and a Belated Happy Birthday to baby V - she's a real cutie pie! I've been following all your blogs for a while, and I must say your posts are a major source of inspiration to me. We are an Indian couple currently living in Malaysia, and we have a 5-year old (biological) daughter. We will be bringing home a lil' girl from Basundhara soon - hopefully before the year ends! She's turning 2 next month - so our story will be similar to Arhana's :) It will be great if we can keep in touch via email - I'm desperate for tips on many things, most of all on how to settle in an almost 3-year-old with minimum possible trauma on both sides :) If it is fine with you, please email me at lakshmyajay@gmail.com Thanks!

May 18, 2009 - 4:09 pm Cristy - I love love love the pics, my favorite is the leaning over it one! Adorable! Happy Birthday!! Love, Cristy

May 30, 2009 - 12:25 pm Amy Swor - I think you were a smart mommy to go ahead and have Virginia's ears pierced now. Wrote a comment back in Jan 2009 when you were considering the pro's/con's of infant ear piercing. Like you, I got the bee in my bonnet about having our dd's ears pierced the minute I saw babies and other little girls with sweet little pierced earrings. Always thought pierced ears on newborns/infants celebrated their femaleness and femininty. Love the look of seeing pearls on little girls or little gold hoops poking through their hair making them look so sweet! Our ped encouraged me to have our dd's ears pierced giving us some suggestions. If any other moms are uncertain, but secretly want it done, write me an e-mail and I'll send them to you. Amy amyswor@hotmail.com P.S. Wondered what was the tipping point in your decision to go ahead and have Virginia's ears pierced now? Sorry to be nosey, but would love to know what pushed you over doing it. Drop me an e-mail. Thanks.
